RUBBER O-RING - AN ABSOLUTE ESSENTIAL FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS
A Rubber O-Ring is best described as a donut shaped mechanical rubber gasket that is used for static and dynamic industrial applications.
Rubber O-Ring comes with several benefits. Some of the benefits are as follows:
- Rubber O-Rings are easy to manufacture
- Their cost of production is low
- They can resist pressure
- They can be mounted easily
- They can withstand high temperatures
Rubber O-Ring comes in different types of rubber compounds. Some of the common materials used for making these rings are silicon, nitrile, viton and some other types of synthetic rubber materials.
There
are various types of rubber O rings available in the market. Some of the major
types of these rings are -
·
Backup O Rings - The backup Orings are used to enhance the
performance of the chief O rings. The backup O rings protect the seal of the
main Oring under conditions of high pressure and temperature. With their help,
the main O rings are not only able to perform better but they also last much
longer.
·
Rubber Coated O Rings - The rubber coated O rings offer
increase resistance to friction. That apart, they are more resistant to
weathering and abrasion. These coated O rings are not sticky.
·
Encapsulated Rubber ORings - These Orings come covered with
the layer of material that protects them against corrosion. This covering also
protects them against high temperature and pressure. The inner cores of these
rings are made of rubber.
·
HollowO Rings - Although not suitable for high pressure
applications, the hollow O rings are used widely in applications that make the
use of nonstandard grooves.
· Square Rings - Generally called the washer and the lathe cut rings, these O rings come with a square cross section. They are used in applications that require high flexibility.
